An Evaluation of Using Key in Premiere

If you would like to see the music video, please follow this link:

Here is a video that I filmed for the band Verax. Although it was a low budget music video, I feel it is still very effective. The key was done in AP rather than AE which saved considerable rendering time and it turns out that there are only a few minor issues with the key anyway where some reflections reflect off of themselves (that will probably only make sense to editors). The backgrounds (which are only for promotional use) add a great feel to the video to what is only a 2 dimensional static shot of any action. Although some top layers and a 3D effect with greater rotation and depth would certainly have given a nice polish to the video, this would have pushed the video well over budget. Instead I've used a cold filter and warm grade to give this film it's edge. The video is shot in HD but I chose to deliberately add grain and darken the opacity to soften the edges of the subjects against a generally dark background.

The video was only shot on one day so most shots were safety shots and therefore needed to be filmed quite wide, an example of how AP coped with this can be seen from an extra video which was only shot once! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtgLm20jJWs)
